Vaguely Southwestern-ish CR Friendly Zoned Lunch

Try this:

50 g black beans, soaked overnight, cooked and drained (the 50 g is raw)
1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
1 teaspoon fresh raw cilantro (or thereabouts)
1/2 jalepeno pepper, chopped and seeds removed (do not rub your eyes!)
or, a few canned jalepenos, chopped
1 tablespoon rice protein 55 calories and 7.5 g protein for my brand
1 clove garlic
1/2 cup eggwhites, cooked, chopped

mix it all together, serve hot.

That's 310 calories, 35 g protein, but almost no fat. The eggwhite is a cheap trick to up the protein, but it actually tastes good and adds some more solidness to the soup, making it more filling.

Serve this on the size: Lime Guacamole

Take however much avocado you need to Zone out the previously spent calories, and mash it up with the juice of one fresh lime. Throw in a touch of garlic powder and a dash of tabasco or whatever your favorite hot sauce is. Voila! Fat!

If you want to be really fancy, serve a dollop of the guacamole right on top of the soup. It's like the sour cream they put on black bean soup in restaurants, except better and better for you.

If you want to defeat the entire CR purpose of this dish, drink a giant frozen margarita with the meal.

Oh my... that sounds very yummy.

Two quick questions:
1) Where can *I* get some of the ingredients you use (sucralose, rice protein, etc.)? I'm in a *ahem* culturally restrictive part of the U.S. so, you know, if Wal-Mart 'aint got it, I don't need it. :-P
2) Do you have a big catalog of recipies hidden around here somewhere? I'm diggin' the lasagna, stuffed veggies... pretty much everything. How would you suggest, say, a CR'd chili or something?

(Sorry... I'm a CR newbie :-))

Hi Jacob!

It's me, April! I don't have a central catalog yet, but I'm thinking of putting together a cookbook! More good recipes to come...

You can order sucralose from warren.taylor@earthlink.net. Rice protein I get at Whole Foods... not sure where to find otherwise, but most health food stores, even GNC, would probably have it. Can you get to a GNC? They also have a decent brewers yeast, though not as good as Lewis Labs.

Glad you're liking the blog! Great to hear from you!

Thanks bunches! There's a GNC at the local mall I'll check out and I'll be getting the sucralose when I go 'all in' with CR.
I've been doing it passively for about a year and a half (read Dr. Walfod's book) and gone from 180 to 155lbs, though I haven't a clue about nutrients. Mostly being more conscious of my body's food cravings, triggers, pitfalls, etc. while trying to minimize as much 'gak' :-) as possible. And, you know, trying to get out of nursing school.

I need a good diet planner.... Any suggestions?

Hi Jacob!

Nursing school... awesome!!! Good for you!

I find that Dr. Walford's Interactive Diet Planner is just fine, and it only costs $48. You can get it at http://www.walford.com, though it sometimes takes weeks to arrive since they only ship twice a month. I use it every day and it's really helpful, though clunky and graphically not particularly exciting.

MR uses nutritiondata.com.
