Tea for Two
Yesterday MR suggested that I pick up an electric tea kettle that holds about two liters, so he can brew water for my green tea at the same time as he brews water for his green tea. [I feel almost guilty as I write this for bragging about how my CR'd mate will brew really fancy green tea for me to bring to work. At least it will make Scott happy that I am drinking green tea.] I pointed out that boiling our water at the same time may save MR six minutes a day. "What will we do with those six minutes?" I asked him. "I don't think I'd want to live that long," he said, and we collapsed into hysterical giggles.
Get it?
Of course you can find something more exciting/important/fulfilling to do for six minutes a day than watching water boil!
Add up all those six minutes, and you get quite a life-extension. Do you think you can find something to do?
Being dead, one would think, is even more boring than watching water boil.

Whenever I'm waiting for my tea water to boil (which seems like about half my life these days, with the outlandish amounts of tea I drink), I practice standing on one foot with my eyes closed. Very zen! Plus, it intrigues the dogs. And our lives are always enriched by those things which intrigue us.

Hey April,
I have been doing CR on varying levels for about a year now and reading your blog for a few months. I get lots of inspiration from it. I would love to get some of your recipes. It seems like we both frequent Trader Joe's and have a few parallels in food preferences, at least from what I can see from your blog.
I am 31, live in DC. I used to be a full-time special education teacher. I have been touring with my rock band for the last five years. Love to travel, love to play music. Love reading about and practicing CR.
Best,
Amanda

We use a coffeemaker for that same purpose. We put in a filter, and so lots of hot water for hot green or rooibos tea or my "hot chocolate" :)
Does Rooibos tea have the same health benefits of Green Tea? I've started drinking green tea recently, but I have to admit I've never been big on the taste, rooibos tastes better even though technically I think it's an herbal tea (no caffeine).

Gregg, I've read a lot about Rooibos and it seems beneficial, though I'm not sure it has the same overall benefit of tea, simply because tea contains EGCG, a miracle molecule full of health benefits.
I drink a 4-6 bottles a day of Green/White Tea from www.Teastea.com. (You can buy this at Whole Foods.) I add 15 drops of HydraCel to each bottle, to break up the water molecule clusters (increasing hydration), and to increase the pH balance.
White tea is actually more beneficial than green tea because it's less processed, and therefore has a higher concentration of catechins. As a bonus it's also naturally more sweet than green tea.
