Deviled Egg-o-Tatta

You knew it was coming. Something bizarre and CR friendly for MR's Easter lunch. Now it's here.

I decided to make a giant tatta inspired by the deviled egg. I am Southern you see so I can not allow the day that commemorates the resurrection of Christ pass without serving deviled eggs. If you don't get the connection, please return to Bible study immediately, do not pass Go, do not collect two hundred Whitman sampler chocolate crosses.

Of course, the traditional yolk and mayo filled deviled egg is not MR appropriate. It would be easy enough to make real deviled eggs with eggwhites and nonfat mayo or sour cream and eggwhites, then put them into actual cooked eggwhites for a gorgeous, apparently Southern Easter platter. My mom even has several deviled egg serving trays. But I lacked both eggs and time, so I made a giant deviled egg-o-tatta. I put in a whole bunch of cartoned eggwhites, three teaspoons of organic yellow mustard, a half cup nonfat plain organic yogurt, half a teaspoon red wine vinegar (we have no white vinegar), tomatoes so there will be some veggies in there somewhere, fresh ground pepper, and paprika. It looks really cool. I'm serving it with a side of brussels sprouts with olive oil and fresh lemon and a dessert of pears baked and topped with hazelnut oil and cinnamon. Should be a bizarre Easter treat!

I'll let you know if MR likes it.

As I'm gaining just 6 lbs back from the 12~ that I lost during CR (already gained 3!) I took a very tiny bite of a MILK Chocolate easter egg... it was horrible, I could notice it was loaded with sugar right away!

So while everyone eats their very sugar filled easter eggs, I will have half a bar of good Quality Dark chocolate (250~ calories).

Back to strict CR for me in 2-3 weeks!

April, how do you feel about CR on days like easter, christmas, birthday parties etc... Do you think that you should stick to your extreme CR even on those very few occasions or do you think its good to just eat your normal meals how you do everyday, then enjoy whatever other foods you like on that day.

Maybe this would be a bad idea for some people as it might lead to it becoming a habbit, eating large quantities of that high cal food everyday... but with people that have a lot of willpower, I don't see the problem as you get straight back onto CR the next day.

I think it's quite healthy to enjoy a few treats on different occasions throughout the year.

Hello April

I've never commented before, so hopefully this does not present some sort of intrusion. I'm a 27 year old woman who has been interested in life extension for probably as long as I can remember.

I am not "formally" CRed myself in terms of weighing-and-measuring of things but I do have a policy of eating a low-fat primarily-vegetable diet and not consuming things which lack nutritional value. I'm currently looking at ways to improve my lunches at work -- I've been taking things like heat-and-serve Indian meals (i.e., lentils in tomato sauce with ginger) but I've been looking at perhaps taking fresher things.

Bascially, I want to implement a CRON regimen keeping in mind that I am already only 100 lbs (lucky genetics and a halfway-decent diet just due to food preferences -- I can't stand fatty meats or huge amounts of starch, so it's veggies, legumes, nuts, etc. for me!).

So, yesterday I had some vague notion about combining tomatoes, yogurt, egg whites, and some sort of seasoning -- and lo and behold, I log into Mprize and see this interesting-sounding description of something involving those very ingredients. Thank you for posting this (and your other entries) -- it is quite inspiring!
