CR and Exercise, comment response

A commenter asks for more info about CR vs. exercise. Alas, burning calories isn't the same as just never eating them. Lots of animal data to that effect, but I don't have time to dig it up just at this second. Will see if I can put my hands on something asap, but the CR Society archives aren't functioning that well these days, so it's harder than it used to be.

In the meantime, here is a good article that references the WUSTL study that a bunch of CR folks are in. It has helpful info on many aspects of the issue.

Thanks for this!

I'll go have a look on the online journal service at my college - if I know there's stuff out there I've a better chance of finding the search terms to find it :-)

(I guess I'm also interested in whether it's worthwhile to find a balance between CR (the life-extension & health effects of which I like the sound of!) & exercise (which I love) - if a level of CR compatible with my preferred level of exercise doesn't provide any life-extension benefits then it's less worthwhile to spend a lot of time jigging the figures, although I think some of your techniques are useful in terms of health anyway, & as per your marathon-running friend, a bit of CR won't hurt!). (sorry, thinking aloud a bit there!)

I read an interesting article about CR and was wondering about the advantages vs. disadvantages of being an athlete while also living a CR life. If, for example, I do two hours of intense cardio every day would this affect the amounts of calories I would consume on a CR diet?
Thanks.

For those of us who can't calorie restrict how about a treadmill desk? You walk all day at a slow pace,(no sweating) and keep your metabolism and lymphatic system going full speed. Works great actually. I found a good treadmill desk called TrekDesk at www.trekdesk.com.
