Very Good Photo Shoot
Wow, that was fun.
At first we were a little tense. It had been a tense day of running around (including getting lost at Ikea... they do that on purpose!) and MR had spent much of the day putting together recalcitrant furniture while I spent much of the day scrubbing floors. We were pretty exhausted, but our photographer was excellent and cheered us right up.
New York Magazine send a photographer named Doron Gild, and his assistant Lizzie whose last name I didn't catch. They were great! You can check out Doron's work here. I really liked the way the pictures came out, including a few with Kieffer! Doron mostly photographs real people, and from working with him and looking at his pictures of others, I definitely get the sense that he knows how to make people look like who they are, not just how they look.
Our diner booth in our kitchen (it's a weird retro fifties diner booth and table that the seller left for us, and I love it!) looked adoreable, and the food was gorgeous. Here's what we made:
Curried pumpkin soup in the pretty vegetable mugs (corn and carrot) that my mom bought me
Quorn roast with MR's vegetable gravy, which was amazing and we'll be using at "Thanksgiving"
asparagus steamed with fresh lemon and pepper and olive oil
Tomatoes with olive oil and pepper
Strawberry-Ricotta parfait with hazelnuts for MR, plain strawberries for me
Both of us had red wine (pinot noir for him, some of my fancy Frenchy stuff for me) and flax oil. Flax is amazing in the pumpkin soup. Brings out the buttery side of flax, whereas fruit dishes bring out the floral.
Doron got a ton of pics of the food, pics of us with the food, pics of us with scale and computer, pics of cat, etc. Kieffer fell in love with Lizzie, and both photographers petted him just right behind the hears. He really enjoys that.
Tomorrow it's back to work, and then making a big dinner for both sets of MR's parents! We're looking forward to having so much of our family assembled. I wish my mom could be here, but she's just moved to Reading where she took a new job so she's not close by. :(
I'll answer Katrina's question in more depth later, but Matt basically hit the nail on the head re: grains. Thank you Matt!
