CR on Today!
In the theme of CR publicity, the Today Show did an interview with Paul and Meredith of the CR Society this morning, and their correspondent wrote an excellent article on the topic. Read it here.
One caution about this piece: while it's overall good, the forumla for cutting calories is misleading. There is no definite "CR calorie level" and people seem to benefit from any level of calorie reduction while maintaining nutrition. Don't be discouraged from cutting calories somewhat because you don't want to cut as drastically as this formula would imply. And no matter what you do, cut calories gradually, paying attention to nutrition first. Don't lose weight too fast! No more than 2 pounds per month if you're starting slim, no more than 5 pounds per month if you're starting overweight.

How did you get started on CR?
I'm really interested on making mine a CR lifestyle, but I'm not really sure where to begin.

Hey April, my weight loss was probably a bit too fast, like 0.5 a week, and rarely at 0.8 lbs for a week when my acitivity increased. But I only lost around 10-12lbs while doing CR... You reckon there will be long term consequences for this weight loss?
Obviously I'm much younger which may give me a bit more room for a higher calorie cut than middle aged persons... but my weight loss was considerably less than majority of CRers anyway.

I have been reading your diary for about a week now, I found it in a google search for nutritional information on Chinese food.
Until recently I consumed an astronomical amount of calories per day, purely out of habit. I am cutting calories extremely slowly so as to ensure my continued success, although not for the same reasons as you and most of your readers, but the struggles are the same regardless of the underlying reasons.
I just wanted to thank you for sharing this diary, you are a source of strength and encouragement even if you do not fully realize it.

Paul and Meredith are adorable!
I watched the clip of them by going to this site:

Under Today Show Video I clicked on Secret to long, healthy life: eating less? and up popped the clip.
I love that they get up and dance at 6 a.m. every morning. How cute is that? Paul seems so sweet - he reminds me of Mr. Rogers.
