Good Nutrition on the Run

Today is a road trip and we don't know what food will be available where, so we're packing our own. I'm going with simple because I don't like to mess with my food a lot when I travel... if I'm not eating something fairly compact, I end up with it all over my sweater. So I'm packing 2 megamuffins, April size and style (that's 209 cals and savory, made with veggies instead of fruit and savory spices instead of sweet), my usual salad but with no toppings (I'll just eat it out of the container) and 200 calories of almonds. I know there's a Starbucks on the way, so I'm going to stop for a nonfat latte to up my calcium and B vitamins (and because I love them, and haven't had one in awhile!) Saving room for a glass of wine at the end of the day.

Here's the crunch for today. Never let it be said that you can't get good nutrition on the run.

Hi. I really enjoy reading your blog. I just have some questions. First, do you home-make your megamuffins? And if you do, will you be willing to share your recipe. Or if you buy them, what are they called and where can I purchase them? Also, I'm interested in becoming part of the CR society. I'm only 17 right now. Where can I learn more about this and what books do you recommend me reading?

I do the exact same thing when we go on road trips. If I do happen to find something on the way, like a fruit stand or a decent protein bar, so much the better... but if not, at least I have my good food with me!

Hi April.

I wondered if you'd ever had almond milk? This is a great way to get vit E and also a way to get more vitamin D. It's very nice and you can get it unsweetened - which gives you 40cals per cup. I pour it over frozen blueberries with just a touch of splenda... The berries thaw in a few minutes... yum, yum!

April, could you please post a link to the CR email lists you reference from time to time. I followed a link I found on the website, but it was broken.

Thank you!
