Holiday Treats For Co-Workers

For the holidays I give out decorative dried fruit and nut mixes in pretty jars. It's a nice alternative to the cookies and candy that attack every office at holiday time.

This year, I mixed up dried apples, cranberries, and bananas with raw almonds and pecans. I put them in pretty jars and shake them all up. They make nice snacks for normal people who would otherwise be eating chocolate or cookies. For the CR'd person, dried fruit isn't a great deal calorie-wise and the nuts need to be eaten in small amounts, but for the people in my office, it's an improvement. They're pretty jars to have on the desk and snack on instead of junk food, and the fruit is sweet enough to appeal to the normal person's taste.

When they're done with the mix, I take the jars back and re-use them the next year, so they're also a wrapping-free, environmentally sound alternative.

And they're a lot cheaper than giving everyone a bottle of wine. :)

What a wonderful compromise, not too restrictive, but yet a perfectly healthy enjoyable treat!

My place of work has been bombarded with See's Candy, and Gift baskets of yummy treats.

I declined all, but in one gift basket there was some smoked salmon which I did bring home, have not eaten yet...

I would feel totally offended and unhappy if you gave me a pretty jar full of nice things then wanted the jar back. Presents are to be given, not to be taken back. I don't think it's a good idea to take you presents' containers back even if it's for recyling. How do you know I won't make it my cinnamon jar, thus recyling it. How do you know some people at your work really like them and think of putting nice things in them at their home?
You shouldn't take away things you give away no matter what they are. It's just not nice. You can never know what worth people you gave them to put into them. It's like taking away their personal input onto the gift. I think you should reconsider this idea. Personally, I would fistfight you if you tried to take away the pretty jar you gave to me and I would in no circumstances give it back, even if you beat me:)
