Taking a Break
Alas, not from work. That remains insanely busy as ever.
I just wanted to let you know that I'm taking a few days, maybe a week or two off from blogging. I'm fine, I just need a little bit of time to focus on getting my own CR back on track after this crazy campaign, and with work being so busy I don't have much time to cook or think of interesting recipes to post, and not much time to write the fun philosophical pieces I like to post from time to time.
It's been a very stressful year, both in my work and in CR-land. Though I don't regret doing the many media appearances, I realize that they've taken a huge toll on my personal life. I had no idea when we agreed to the first one that there would be such a huge backlash of negativity... and I certainly never guessed that I'd make it into one of Rebecca Traister's columns. (Interestingly enough, I read some of her other work and really like it... I think we'd be friends if we were to meet.) I have to absord so much stress and negativity on my job that it's hard to come home and absorb even more online. Of course it is my choice to do the media appearances, and I accept that people will have whatever reaction they'll have. But I need a break from dealing with the trolls, the jerks, and the random people who have nothing better to do than write nasty comments on other people's blogs.
I'm sure I won't be gone long, so keep checking back.

Sorry you feel like this, April, but it's completely understandable... Have a good break, and keep checking the blogs of people who do support you and appreciate where you are coming from!

I'm so proud of you. Taking a break is brave and so smart. M

You do whatever you feel you need to. You put way more of yourself into your blog than most of us combined, so you could use the break.
I truly don't get the extreme negativity of some people. Like the chick who commented on your sushi post. Don't they work? Don't they have lives? How do they have enough time to (presumably) do things they enjoy, spend time with people they love, and still have time to get on the internet and be negative? And why would they want to? I mean, I read tons of things that I might find silly or maybe even annoying, but I don't find it worth my time to actually comment about it - mostly I just ignore those people and no longer frequent their sites. The mentality of people who would post negative crap to someone's blog that isn't itself negative in any way is just bizarre.
Anyway, wanted to send you my good thoughts. I'll miss you while you're gone, but completely understand your point of view.
Your bloggie-friend Amy

I hope your time away is rejuvinating. You deserve some time away. But I'm looking forward to your return!

Take care of yourself April! Keep your energy up and stay centered. I was feeling the same way about 2 years ago, so I quit my job, dumped my boyfriend, stoped saying "yes" to people and events I really didn't want to be with or do, and I've never been happier!
I think a lot of the problem with people like us is that we want to save humanity but we're killing ourselves in the process. Maybe it has to do with our stupid Christian brainwashed upbringings - where healthy boundries and self care is seen as a negative selfishness. It keeps us stuck with people we think love us but are really holding us back and hurting us a great deal, and in situations that are really hurting us. don't stay away too long April. We support you!

I completely understand. And there's a lot more of us that that aren't very vocal - we are grateful for your involvment, sharing, & recipe ideas - you have many more supporters than detractors. My husband knows what I mean when I say "It's an April recipe!" Thanks - Karen, another kale lover

You do a great job. Maybe you should screen comments or have a friend screen them. Thank you again for your blog.

If anyone deserves a break, it's you. Rest up and come back re-charged. And just try to forget about the trolls. They aren't even worth thinking about.

Just don't think McD about deserving a break. Not the right place for one :-). But I've seen a lot of the stuff that comes up against CR and can't imagine how you deal with all that stress and frustration. I admire you for doing all the media work. It's probably helped more people than you'll ever know.
So enjoy your break and come back when you're ready.

Keep up the good work. We'll miss you and I'm sure you'll come back stronger and more focused than ever. Your contribution can't even be measured at this point. it is forever.

Hey...take care. Spend some time relaxing at home with MR and the cats. Blogging takes a good deal of work and time, and you could devote that time to yourself and your family during your break. Take as much time as you need. We'll be here when you return!

Not everyone who disagrees with you tries to be as nasty as possible about it.
But I think, if I had to hold my eating habits up to the public view, I'd feel stressed, as well.
The difference between us is that I don't put forth how I eat as a way to lengthen life (or shorten it; I eat pretty well, actually) and/or be more healthy than just about anyone around (excepting fellow practitioners, of course). You do.
Still, I like your sassy attitude, your recipes and your blog, so I look forward to when you come back. I hope you rest up and feel energized during your time off. Cheers!

Please try to remember all the people that were helped by that publicity.
I for one, found a new home and a new set of internet friends here in CRONland.
Do be back soon as I look forward to reading your blog everyday. with you gone, break time is going to be boring.

I hope you enjoy your much-needed break, it's important for you to have "you" time, away from the blogosphere.
You continue to be an inspiration to many, and I feel fortunate that you've been here for us. Thanks! :)
