I am also a newbie and have been reading your earlier blogs - they are funny. One question though is how do you go from 64 oz. of coffee with a pint of cream (not half 'n' half unfortunately) and approx. 1/2 cup of sugar to black coffee and actually like it? Ugh! I'm seriously struggling but I'd like to live as long as I can to watch my little girl grow up. I'm 36 and she's 1 1/2 - I feel like I've aged significantly in the last 2 years. Please help if you have time.

If you try to go cold turkey, you will feel deprived but weaning yourself off slowly & gently works beautifully. Start by mixing your sugar 1/2 and 1/2 with Splenda. Over a couple of months, change the ratio until you're using straight Splenda. The taste of Splenda and sugar are so similar that you'll adjust easily. With the cream, do the same thing. Mix your full-bore cream with Half & Half for a few weeks, changing the ratio until you're using straight Half & Half. Then, start mixing the Half & Half with about 1/4 milk, then 1/3 milk, then 1/2 milk. Do this over about 6 months, and at the end, you'll actually be using something close to 6% cream but because you've done it so slowly, it will taste wonderful. Eventually, you may wean yourself down to putting milk in your coffee. I'm not there yet but we can get 5% cream in one grocery store and it tastes great. The calories and fat you'll NOT be consuming will definitely help you lose weight (a great benefit, if that's something you need to do). Also, try skim milk lattes; they're a delicious treat. You might also try mixing half regular coffee with half decaf. Good luck, Sam!

Thanks Judith! Weightloss isn't my goal but the coffee is an incredible hurdle for me in CR. I love coffee and I just couldn't see giving it up forever. I will do as you say and this should help me gradually reduce my calories.
