Interesting Article on "Diet Disconnects"

Here.

A little red flag started waving in my head when I read this line from the article:

"Despite these disconnects, some positive health messages are getting through. For example, the survey found that Americans are getting the message that all foods can fit into a healthy diet."

That just sounds like Big Food rhetoric to me. So I checked on the source, IFIC, and found that they say right on their webpage:

"IFIC is supported primarily by the broad-based food, beverage and agricultural industries."

The article brings up some interesting points - that people don't know how many calories they should be consuming, etc... however given the source, I'm a little skeptical of their findings.

aprilita,
where are you? Write soon please. I want to read some whimsical pieces by you rather than those boring nerdy comments. C'mon.

"...only 11% of Americans knew how many calories they should be eating."

Yeah, so? I practice CR, and I don't know how many calories I should be eating, either. I just know that if my weight is below what I consider a "safe" level, I eat more; if it's above it, I eat less. Attaching a number to your calorie intake is of no use whatsoever unless you account for every calorie you put in your mouth, and few people are willing to go to that effort.

Alas, it's all been in the "above" category lately....

Thanks for the pointer.
