Another CR Person With a Yoga Addiction
Yes, Arturo. Yes, YC. Yes, all of you yoga junkies out there. It finally got me. It's a wonder it didn't happen sooner than it did.
There's a yoga studio less than two blocks away from my house. It's really, really nice. I took a Pilates there a few months ago on a Saturday and it was pleasant, more yoga-focused than my usual class.
Then I figured the other day I'd try a new Sunday morning Power Basics class. Very intro level. Nice time... 9:30 on Sunday morning. Good for me.
Loved it. Lisa, my teacher, took a lot of special time with me, as there were only two students. I felt like I really understood what was going on. When I walked in I said, "This is my first ever yoga class," and she said that was good, as it's an intro level class. "I've taken Pilates for a year and a half," I said. "Oh, you'll be fine."
The next night I took another class: Tri-Yoga Basics. Loved that too. Less athletic, less sweating, more meditative. I had taken Pilates that morning, so I had a two class day.
Today Susie, Edward and I went to the gym over lunch. I did treadmill at 4.1 mph and incline of 10 for 35 minutes. Tonight I'm going to another Power Basics class.
Life is good. I am now a yoga addict. I was never the kind of person who could try something once without getting hooked. I never tried drugs, not at all, because I knew I'd be the one stop shopper junkie. Better to be a yoga junkie. I bought a summer membership so I have three months of unlimited classes. I plan to bleed them dry.
It was bound to happen, eventually. As Edward's mother (may she rest in peace) would say, "At least it keeps you off the streets and out of the bars."

Nice to to see you finally joined yoga! :D
I've been doing it for a couple years now, though had to have a long break recently cos of the problem you may have read, but have also just started it back up a few weeks ago and it does feel great.
Hope that you carry on with it long term :)

I was wondering when you would finally make the leap to yoga from Pilates. :-) Enjoy! It's a wonderful practice and had done a lot to help me build and maintain muscle while on CR.

Hi April - what would you recommend as a substitute ingredient if (as in the UK) fat free mozzarella and cheddar are unobtainable? I ask becasue they appear so often in your recipes and I would like to try them! We do have reduced fat products but that would alter the calories and the whole balance of the dish.

That's a tough one, Linda. I'd say you can use fat free yogurt in a lot of places instead of ricotta, but it won't turn out as well. You could try cutting lowfat ricotta with nonfat plain yogurt. As to the fat free cheese, that's really a tough one. You could use part skim cheese and just cut back on calories elsewhere, but it's too bad you don't have the pure protein source in a cheesy flavor that is nonfat mozza.
Hey, at least you have national health care!

Linda - apparently mozzarella is very easy to make and a lot of other cheeses, inc cheddar, as long as you don't use UHT milk. You could google and see if it's possible to do it with the skimmed milk we can get here.
April, could you list the extra ingredients (if any) that are in the fat-free mozza in the US?

Welcome to the wonderful world of yoga. If you get really "hooked" you will be amazed at how well you feel mentally, phyiscally and spiritually. When I first heard that, I thought, geez, I'm only looking for a little exercise. But its true, wellbeing in so many ways flows into your life when you have a regular yoga practice.
Good Luck and don't forget to keep us updated.

I've found some mozza and ricotta recipes on www.motherearthnews.com and they do look pretty easy so I am going to try them!
